Emphasising the role of education in shaping the future of the nation, Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi on Friday said that the outlook of youth towards life forms the foundation of progress and national development.
Addressing students, teachers and guests at the annual function of Government College Arki, Awasthi said education refines the thinking of young people and guides them in the right direction to achieve their goals.
He said an educated society is the cornerstone of development for both the state and the country. “Education develops a positive mindset among youth and motivates them to consistently work towards their goals,” he said, adding that the right guidance at the right time inspires young people to excel and contributes to sustainable progress.
Highlighting the importance of skill-based learning, Awasthi said education not only provides livelihood opportunities but also helps build a self-reliant youth force. He urged students to combine traditional knowledge with modern vocational skills to meet the demands of the changing world.
Referring to initiatives of the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he said several professional courses have been introduced to equip youth with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. He also requested the college management to send proposals for starting employment-oriented courses, including skill development and AI-related programmes.
The MLA further suggested organising special counselling sessions at the college where subject experts could guide students about career opportunities and professional prospects. He assured that necessary funds could be arranged if proposals are submitted.
Awasthi said the state government is making consistent efforts to provide quality education at all levels. While English-medium education has been introduced at the primary level, Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools are being established in every assembly constituency to provide better educational facilities at one place. He added that the CBSE curriculum is also being implemented in government schools, with 140 schools already covered under the system.
For the Arki assembly constituency, three Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools have been approved, while CBSE curriculum will be introduced in four schools from the current academic session.
Awasthi also announced that postgraduate classes in Hindi and Political Science will start at Government College Arki from the current academic session. PG courses in History and English have already been introduced due to his efforts. The move is expected to benefit students, especially girls, who often face difficulties in pursuing higher education outside the area.
He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and encourage their peers to do the same. He also called upon parents to pass on cultural values and traditions to the younger generation so that they grow into responsible citizens.
Congratulating students who excelled in various activities, the MLA expressed hope that their achievements would inspire others as well. He encouraged youth to participate in public life and consider politics as a means of social service, including through Panchayati Raj institutions.
Established in 1994, Government College Arki has become an important centre for higher education in the region, he said, expressing confidence that the institution would reach greater heights in the future.
On the occasion, Awasthi also announced a grant of ₹21,000 for the organising committee.
Earlier, Principal Sunita Sharma welcomed the chief guest and presented the annual report of the college. Students also presented cultural performances during the event.
