Shimla:
A district-level meeting on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, where detailed information about the scheme was presented through a PowerPoint presentation.
The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at enhancing youth employability through practical, industry-based training. The scheme operates under the provisions of the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 and is implemented by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Its core principle is “Earn While You Learn.”
Practical Training with Stipend Support
Under NAPS, students and young job seekers undergo apprenticeship training in industries, factories, companies, institutions, and government offices. This hands-on exposure enables them to gain real workplace experience beyond classroom education. Upon successful completion, apprentices receive a government-recognized certificate, significantly improving their employment prospects.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap informed that the scheme will be implemented in all government and private establishments employing more than 30 staff members. Youth in the district will be placed in major hotels, banks, and other institutions to receive structured training, promoting both skill development and employment opportunities.
He further stated that the government provides financial incentives to employers under NAPS. The Centre bears 25 percent of the apprentice’s stipend, subject to a maximum of ₹1,500 per month per apprentice. Additionally, part of the cost of basic training is also covered. This support encourages Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to engage apprentices and access trained manpower at affordable costs.
Describing the scheme as a transformative initiative, Kashyap said NAPS effectively connects youth with skills, experience, and sustainable employment, thereby contributing to industrial growth and the nation’s economic development.
