Rampur (Shimla), October 9
One passenger was killed and more than 10 others were injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus overturned off the road near Rai in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district on Friday morning. More than 30 people, including the driver and conductor, were reportedly travelling on the bus when the accident occurred.
The bus was travelling from Sanei towards Rampur when the driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp bend near Rai. The vehicle veered off the road and overturned, triggering panic among passengers and residents in the area.
According to the information available, one passenger died in the accident, while more than 10 others sustained injuries. Two passengers reportedly suffered serious head injuries. The bus came to a halt after colliding with a cowshed, preventing it from rolling further down towards a gorge and potentially averting a more serious tragedy.
Local residents rushed to the accident site after hearing the crash and immediately began rescue operations. They helped evacuate the injured and transported them to Khaneri Hospital in Rampur in private vehicles, where they were admitted for treatment.
Police personnel reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the crash. The administration is coordinating medical assistance for the injured.
