Shimla
The Food, Civil, and Consumer Affairs Department has started blocking ration cards of consumers who do not take cheap ration from depots for three consecutive months. So far, 1,350 cards of the state have been closed. The department believes that these consumers will not need cheap rations, so they will not be taking rations from the depot. The state government has directed the district food controller officers to block the cards of the consumers who have not taken ration for three months and inform the headquarters.
At the same time, many consumers are upset due to the non-functioning of the portability scheme in Himachal. According to this scheme, people can take cheap rations from any depot anywhere in Himachal. In such a situation, the cards of these people are also being blocked. However, many consumers have to go to the villages to get rations to save their cards from getting blocked. There are 19 lakh ration cardholders in the state. The state government is providing three pulses (Malka, Mash, Dal Chana), two liters of oil (refined and mustard), 500 grams of sugar per person, and one kg of salt to the consumers on subsidy. Apart from this, wheat and rice are being provided by the central government on subsidy.
