In the first batch, 151 doctors from 24 departments will be on leave for 38 days. Only the remaining 50 percent of doctors will do duty in the hospital.
Senior doctor of Chamiyana Hospital, Sudhir Sharma, said that the doctors will go on leave in 2 batches. The first batch is going on leave from 26 December, while the second batch will leave from 31 January. In the first batch, 36 doctors from 15 departments will be on leave for 31 days. Only the remaining 50 percent of doctors will be on duty in the hospital.
Every year, doctors go on winter vacation in IGMC. Faculty members of the hospital get 31 days of leave, while resident doctors get 30 days of leave. After they return to duty, the remaining 50 percent of doctors will go on leave. The IGMC administration has released its holiday schedule.
IGMC has an OPD of 3200 to 3500 patients every day. Patients are referred to IGMC from hospitals not only from Shimla district but also from all 12 districts. In such a situation, due to 151 doctors going on leave at once, patients will have to wait for a long time for treatment in OPD. The biggest problem due to the leave of doctors will be faced due to the leave of specialist doctors because many serious patients are seen by specialist doctors only.
