DELHI
Early on Sunday, flash floods caused by heavy rain in the Ramban area of Jammu and Kashmir killed three people and saved over 100 others, according to officials.
Along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the constant rain also caused mudslides and landslides at about a dozen locations between Nashri and Banihal, forcing traffic to be halted, they added.
The officials said a cloudburst struck the Seri Bagna village of Ramban, resulting in the deaths of three persons, including brothers Aqib Ahmad and Mohd Saqib.
They said that when the last reports were received, the village’s rescue effort was still underway.
Five persons have died in rain-related accidents in the Jammu area in the last two days, according to the most recent data. Late Saturday, lightning struck the Arnas region of Reasi district, killing two persons, including a lady, and injuring another woman.
