Pipeline installation under Package 5 of SJPNL project to begin from Wednesday
Shimla: The installation of a new drinking water pipeline in Kasumpti ward is set to begin from Wednesday under Package 5 of the Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited’s (SJPNL) 24×7 continuous and pressurised water supply project.
The project aims to strengthen and modernise Shimla’s water distribution system by developing a new network of distribution and transmission pipelines. Following Kasumpti, pipeline installation work in Panthaghati ward is also expected to begin shortly under the same package.
The construction work for the project is being undertaken by SUEZ India. Work on water supply infrastructure under Packages 1, 2, 3 and 10 is already underway in different parts of Shimla.
As part of the project, new water storage tanks are being constructed to improve the city’s storage capacity. Existing pipelines will also be replaced, with households being provided direct connections to the new network through secure and pressurised house service connections.
The project is aimed at providing residents with a reliable supply of clean drinking water round the clock.
Meanwhile, NGO teams have been conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns to inform residents about the project and gather their concerns and suggestions. The teams are also working to address issues raised by local residents.
Kasumpti ward councillor Rachna Sharma has directed the SUEZ and SJPNL teams to ensure that residents face minimum inconvenience during the construction work. She also stressed the need for proper coordination and timely completion of the project.
Local authorities and elected representatives have appealed to residents to cooperate with the construction teams to facilitate the successful implementation of a modern and improved water distribution system in Shimla.
