Centre lauds state for timely completion of school infrastructure projects
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has once again emerged among the top-performing states in the timely implementation of infrastructure projects sanctioned under the Samagra Shiksha programme, recording zero overall pendency for works approved between 2021-22 and 2025-26.
According to data from the Union Ministry of Education, not a single infrastructure project sanctioned for schools in Himachal Pradesh during the five-year period remains pending. The Centre has also appreciated the state’s performance in completing approved works within the stipulated timelines.
Along with Himachal Pradesh, Goa and the Union Territory of Puducherry have also recorded zero pendency. In comparison, Kerala reported 75.57% pendency, while Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu recorded 65.06% and Jammu and Kashmir 59.21%.
Zero pendency across infrastructure components
The state’s performance extends across various categories of infrastructure works approved under Samagra Shiksha. These include additional classrooms, art and craft rooms, boundary walls, school buildings and computer rooms.
Works related to the reconstruction and improvement of dilapidated buildings, drinking water facilities, electrification and laboratories have also recorded zero pendency.
The state has similarly completed all sanctioned works related to biology, chemistry, physics and science laboratories, along with library rooms and major repairs aimed at improving the learning environment in schools.
Projects involving the opening of new schools, construction of ramps and handrails and installation of solar panels have also achieved complete execution.
Basic facilities such as boys’ and girls’ toilets and repair works have likewise recorded zero pendency, according to the data.
100% smart classrooms functional
Himachal Pradesh has also recorded a significant achievement in digital education, with 100% of smart classrooms in the state reported to be functional.
The state’s performance stands out in comparison with Kerala, where around 50% of smart classrooms are reported to be functional.
Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the zero pendency in sanctioned infrastructure works and 100% functionality of smart classrooms was a matter of pride for Himachal Pradesh.
He credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the Samagra Shiksha team, particularly Civil Coordinator Ranjana Chauhan and her team, along with other coordinators.
Sharma said the objective of Samagra Shiksha was not merely to complete projects within deadlines but also to ensure quality infrastructure and better facilities for students. The effective implementation of infrastructure projects, including smart classrooms, reflected the department’s commitment towards strengthening school education, he added.
