A meeting was held with all SDMs and DFOs through VC regarding demarcation of forest land.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap with all SDMs and DFOs through video conference regarding demarcation of forest land in Shimla district.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that all district DFOs will submit a current status report on forest land within a week. The meeting discussed various issues related to the implementation of Supreme Court orders. According to these orders, in WP 1164/2023, the Supreme Court directed states and union territories to identify forest lands, take possession of them, and hand over non-forest land occupied by the Revenue Department to the Forest Department. The Forest Department and Revenue Department are working under this order throughout the district.
During this meeting, the challenges being faced in the field in implementing the orders were discussed in detail. Staff shortages emerged as the biggest reason. However, to address this, all SDMs have been instructed to develop separate plans in their respective jurisdictions to ensure prompt implementation of the Supreme Court orders.
Additional District Magistrate Law and Order Pankaj Sharma, District Revenue Officer Sanjeet Sharma along with all SDMs and DFOs were present in the meeting.
