Belletristic Literature Society of Shoolini University organised a session on “Curious Tales from the Desert” a collection of Rajasthani tales put together by Shaguna Gahilote and Prarthana Gahilote.
It was an informative session that delved into the long history of story-telling, inter-connectedness of tales across the borders, and stories of ordinary people from the area surrounding the Thar Desert in India.
The book is the second foray into the domain of the folktales that the Gahilote sisters have embarked upon. The first venture was “Curious Tales from the Himalayas”. In the same vein, this second book is a celebration of the people who live, breathe, and flourish in the unforgiving climate and environment of the arid desert from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Sindh, and Multan. The expansive Thar is not only unique but vital to the Indian climate.
Samrat Sharma and Neeraj Pizar, faculty members of the Dept of English at Shoolini University, were in conversation with the two authors. Prof Tejnath Dhar added valuable insights to the discussion, and the other faculty members, including Purnima Bali, Hemant Sharma, Navreet Sahi, and Sakshi Sundaram, actively participated in the deliberations.
