Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur on Sunday alleged that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal is opposing constitutional authorities while welcoming infiltrators and mafias.
Addressing a large public gathering during the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in Naihati Assembly constituency of North 24 Parganas district, Thakur said that on one hand Mamata Banerjee opposes the President and the Governor, while on the other hand she allegedly allows infiltrators and mafias to flourish in the state.
He claimed that the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal will be about protecting Bengali pride, culture and identity. Thakur alleged that infiltration from Bangladesh has been continuing for a long time and accused previous governments of encouraging it for vote bank politics.
Thakur further alleged that instead of providing employment and industrial opportunities to the youth, the state government has allowed corruption to flourish. He claimed that several leaders and ministers of the ruling party have been arrested in corruption cases.
Criticising the state government, he said Bengal has suffered from “misgovernance” for decades under both the Left Front and the Trinamool Congress governments. According to him, the state now needs good governance, which he claimed only the BJP can provide.
Thakur also alleged that the Trinamool Congress government has pushed the state into heavy debt and accused it of running a system driven by “Mamata, mafia and money power”.
The BJP leader asserted that if Bengal receives two decades of good governance, it has the potential to become one of India’s most developed states.
