Bioengineering in Himachal Pradesh will prevent landslides. For this, the horticulture wing of the Public Works Department has identified 3 sites in south zone, i.e. Solan, Shimla and Sirmaur for 40. It will cost around Rs 5 crore. The project will be prepared and sent to the wing for SDMA approval.
The central government has mandated bioengineering in disaster projects. 20 percent of the project work will have to be done through bioengineering. In bioengineering, the landslide affected area is prevented naturally. Under this, grass, shrubs and trees are planted using jute and jute in the area sensitive to landslides. Presently, near ISBT Shimla, an attempt has been made to prevent landslides through bioengineering at a site on the Solan-Parwanoo road, which has been successful so far.
Horticulture wing to build nursery with Rs 60 lakh
The horticulture wing of the Public Works Department will prepare the nursery with Rs 60 lakh. 2 to 5 lakh plants will be prepared in this regard. These will then be planted in landslide affected areas. Apart from this, a bioengineering project will be prepared on Mall Road in Solan. This will prevent landslides here. Similarly, landslides in thundi village of Bhojnagar also caused heavy damage. This will also be stopped through a bioengineering project.
