Chamba
Following a terrorist incident in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, security has been tightened in Himachal Pradesh’s border district Chamba. As a precautionary measure, all district borders have been sealed and security personnel have been instructed to remain on full alert.
Chamba shares nearly a 216-kilometre-long border with the sensitive Jammu and Kashmir districts of Doda and Kathua.
Keeping the situation in mind, police and security agencies have jointly intensified checkpoints and surveillance across key entry and exit points.
All vehicles travelling via the Doda–Kishtwar route are being thoroughly checked. Along with vehicle documents, passengers’ identities are also being verified to prevent any suspicious movement.
According to reports, three terrorists are suspected to have fled after carrying out the attack in Kishtwar on Sunday. Security forces, including the Army and police, are conducting search operations in the area. In Chamba, additional police deployment has been made and patrolling has been increased round the clock.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani said the district borders have been sealed to ensure there is no lapse in security. He added that all personnel have been directed to keep strict watch on suspicious individuals, vehicles, or activities and immediately report any concerns to senior officers.
Police have also appealed to local residents for full cooperation. People in border villages said they understand the seriousness of the situation and are supporting security agencies by reporting any suspicious outsiders. Panchayat representatives in several areas have urged residents to stay vigilant and avoid rumours.
Despite minor inconvenience due to checking, traders and drivers said public safety remains the top priority. Authorities confirmed that the situation in Chamba is fully under control and peace will be maintained at all costs.
