Shimla, March 6: In an initiative to promote and preserve the rich cultural and religious heritage of Himachal Pradesh, the State Department of Language, Art and Culture has released a coffee table book based on the state’s prominent temples.
The book was formally released in Shimla by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. The publication highlights the history, significance and visual documentation of 51 major temples of Himachal Pradesh, showcasing the state’s deep-rooted Dev culture (Deva Sanskriti).
Speaking on the occasion, Agnihotri said Himachal Pradesh is globally known for its unique tradition of dev culture, which remains deeply connected with the daily life and faith of the people. He said the initiative will help promote the state’s religious and cultural heritage across the country and abroad while also strengthening cultural tourism.
The coffee table book, published by the Language, Art and Culture Department, includes detailed information and photographs of important temples located in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una districts.
Officials said the publication compiles cultural and historical information about the temples, making it a valuable resource for researchers, tourists, culture enthusiasts and devotees.
It was also highlighted that under the Himachal Pradesh Hindu Public Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1984, management of 36 temples has already been brought under the Commissioner of the department. The department also provides assistance for the maintenance and development of several temples across the state.
Among those present on the occasion were Asha Kumari, MLA Neeraj Nayar, Director of Language, Art and Culture Rima Kashyap (IAS), Joint Director Bhanu Gupta and other officials of the department.
