· Urges young scientists to pursue impactful research for farmers’ welfare
Governor Kavinder Gupta has urged young scientists to pursue research that directly improves the economic condition of farmers. He emphasized the need to inculcate a scientific temperament among students, noting that it would promote self-reliance among farmers and strengthen agricultural productivity and the national economy.
Addressing the 17th Convocation of CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, virtually from Lok Bhavan today, the Governor congratulated the graduates and gold medal winners. He described the convocation as a significant milestone in the life of the student, marking the transition from academic learning to practical application, and called upon students to remain mindful of their responsibilities towards society, the state, and the nation.
Highlighting the university’s rich legacy, Shri Gupta said its alumni have made notable contributions across diverse fields in India and abroad. He expressed satisfaction that the institution continues to maintain its relevance through the achievements of its students and faculty.
The Governor noted that nearly 90 percent of Himachal’s rural population depends on agriculture and allied activities, with around 62 percent engaged in the sector. Agriculture contributes about 9.4 percent to the state’s economy, underscoring the critical role of research and innovation.
Praising the university’s accomplishments, he said they reflect excellence in research, innovation, and forward-looking leadership, along with a strong commitment to rural development, social progress, and nation-building.
Expressing confidence in the university’s future, the Governor said it would continue to play a pivotal role in advancing education, research, and innovation in the country. He stressed that scientific research must extend beyond laboratories to reach farmers in the fields, ensuring tangible and practical benefits.
