With the rise in digital payments and online banking, cases of cyber fraud involving fake delivery agents have been increasing. Fraudsters posing as delivery executives collect one-time passwords (OTPs) from customers on the pretext of delivering products and later misuse them to cheat people.
Major e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon have introduced OTP-based delivery systems to make deliveries more secure. However, despite these safety features, cyber criminals have managed to trap customers and steal money from bank accounts in several cases.
Rohit Malpani said that many such fake delivery scams have been reported across the country and urged people to remain alert.
He advised users not to share OTPs with suspicious delivery agents and to verify the identity of anyone asking for such details. Customers should also open and check the package before confirming delivery or making payments. He further suggested using only verified digital payment platforms and checking order history before accepting any delivery.
