Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh along with his wife Dr Amreen Kaur inaugurated the district level Dussehra festival at Sunni today.
He said that fairs are our tradition and it is our duty to preserve them. Fairs provide an opportunity to promote our culture.
On this occasion, he made important announcements, responding to public demand, stating that a direct bus service would be started from Sunni to Chandigarh PGI. He stated that he had discussed this matter with the Deputy Chief Minister, and the department had issued office orders in this regard. This bus service would provide great convenience to the people of Shimla Rural and Karsog areas.
The Cabinet Minister said that a provision of Rs 14 crore has been made for the construction of the road from Devi Dhar turn to Naya Ser, in which Rs 6 crore will be used for the bridge over the drain and the remaining amount will be used for road upgradation. He informed that the metalling work of the Badman-Basantpur road has been completed at a cost of approximately Rs 7 crore. Similarly, approval of Rs 6 crore 7 lakh has recently been given for the Sheel-Shado road in Garhkahan and approximately Rs 6 crore for the Dumher-Navi road.
The minister said a modern library is being constructed for the youth in Sunni. An air-conditioned library will be built at a cost of approximately ₹1 crore in the Raja Virbhadra Singh Community Hall complex at the Hanuman Temple, which will facilitate students preparing for competitive exams.
He said that the drinking water scheme constructed for Sunni residents at a cost of Rs 25 crore will be inaugurated soon and a drinking water scheme will be constructed for Kel Bagdi of Saraj area at a cost of Rs 36 crore.
He informed that Rs 10 crore has been approved for the repair of Sunni-Thali bridge, Rs 14 lakh for the repair work of SDM office Sunni, Rs 50 lakh for the repair of Nagar Panchayat office Sunni and Rs 50 lakh for the repair of various internal roads of the Nagar Panchayat area.
On this occasion, Vikramaditya Singh also announced to give Rs 1 lakh to the fair committee for the success of the event.
Before the event, the Cabinet Minister, along with his wife, sought blessings from the gods and goddesses. During the event, he also visited a free health check-up camp organized by the Health Department.
Municipal Council Sunni President Pradeep Sharma, Vice President Shyam Devi, former Block Congress President Gopal Sharma, Sub-Divisional Officer Sunni, Tehsildar, councillors and officers of various departments were present in the program.
