New Delhi, March 27, 2026:
Amid concerns over a global fuel crisis due to escalating tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level virtual meeting with chief ministers of all states, urging a unified “Team India” approach to tackle the situation.
Recalling the coordinated efforts between the Centre and states during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of cooperation and collective responsibility in handling the emerging fuel and economic challenges. He said that similar synergy is required now to ensure stability and preparedness across the country.
The meeting focused on maintaining uninterrupted fuel supply, managing inflationary pressures, and ensuring that essential commodities remain available without disruption. The Prime Minister assured that India currently has adequate reserves of petroleum products and LPG, and there is no need for panic buying.
He also stressed the importance of keeping supply chains functional and asked states to remain vigilant against hoarding or black marketing. Officials indicated that the Centre is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to take necessary steps to safeguard the country’s energy security.
Several chief ministers supported the Centre’s approach and highlighted measures being taken at the state level to ensure smooth distribution and prevent shortages. The Centre has also formed a group of ministers to continuously assess the evolving situation and coordinate responses.
The ongoing geopolitical developments in West Asia have impacted global oil markets, raising concerns about potential price volatility. However, the government maintained that proactive steps are being taken to minimize the impact on consumers and the overall economy.
