Union minister also raised demands to visit the disaster -hit areas
Shimla 04September
Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan wrote a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, and has urged him to pay attention to the serious condition of national and state highways due to the recent landslides and disaster caused by scorching rains.
He said in his letter that the natural disaster has made life deep and dangerous, as well as the condition of the roads has been very bad and dangerous. Several routes have not been transportable due to breakdown, collapse and blocked parts, affecting the tourism, trade and supply chain along with local residents. Quick repair and reconstruction of these roads is necessary to be ensured through the National Highways Authority of Authority (NHAI).
Harsh Mahajan demanded the Union Minister that regular presence and accountability of NHAI officials should be ensured. The number of local staff should be increased. A high-level committee should be formed, which periodically inspects on-site and monitoring the repair and reconstruction work.
He also demanded that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari himself visit Himachal Pradesh and evaluate local needs by direct observation of the roads affected by the disaster. The MP hoped that with the intervention and guidance of Nitin Gadkari, the road system of Himachal Pradesh will return to normal condition and the state’s economic and social activities will gain momentum again
