A fresh PIL in the Supreme Court has demanded registration of criminal cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against erring police and other government officials in connection with the alleged destruction of evidence in the Hathras rape case in UP.
Filed by activist Chetan Janardhan Kamble, the PIL accused UP officials of “shielding the accused” and demanded strict action against erring officials to ensure that people’s faith in the rule of law was not dissipated.
