The Himachal Pradesh government on Friday unveiled a welfare-driven Budget 2026–27, announcing a series of measures aimed at supporting economically weaker sections, farmers, women and boosting religious tourism in the state.
In a major relief to low-income households, the government announced 300 units of free electricity for nearly one lakh extremely poor families, a move expected to ease the financial burden amid rising living costs.
To promote religious tourism, a significant allocation of ₹250 crore has been made. The government also confirmed that the long-pending Shiv Dham project in Mandi will be completed, aiming to attract more pilgrims and strengthen the local economy.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the state introduced the Mukhyamantri Machhuara Sahayata Yojana, fixing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹100 per kg for fish from reservoirs, benefiting the fishing community.
Women-centric welfare also received a push, with the government announcing ₹1,500 per month for women from one lakh poor families, providing direct financial assistance to improve household stability.
Farmers were another key focus area. The MSP for naturally grown wheat has been increased from ₹60 to ₹80 per kg, while maize MSP has been raised from ₹40 to ₹50 per kg. Additionally, turmeric farmers will now receive ₹150 per kg, up from ₹90, encouraging natural farming practices.
The budget signals a strong emphasis on inclusive growth, rural empowerment and targeted welfare schemes as the state government looks to balance development with social support.
