Shimla, February 12: The Horticulture Department of Himachal Pradesh organized a one-day workshop on post-harvest management and fruit processing in village Thaila under Basantpur block, benefiting around 48 women farmers. The program aimed to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance income through value addition.
Experts provided hands-on training in preparing pickles, jams, and rhododendron squash, along with guidance on grading, preservation, packaging, labeling, and storage. Participants also learned about cost-benefit analysis, FSSAI registration, and market linkages.
Fruit technologist Dr. Mala Sharma reaffirmed the department’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment through continued training and support. Officials encouraged women to form groups for collective production and marketing to build sustainable livelihoods.
