Shimla: Hundreds of employees working on contract in various departments, boards and corporations of Himachal Pradesh will be regularized on March 31 after completing two years of contractual service. The state government has clarified that the trainee system will not be applicable to these employees.
According to the Personnel Department, employees appointed on a contract basis before February 20, 2025 will continue under the old system and will not be brought under the new trainee or job trainee scheme introduced under the Himachal Pradesh Recruitment and Service Conditions Act-2024.
The department issued the clarification after several heads of departments raised queries regarding the implementation of the new recruitment policy. As per the instructions, the contracts of such employees can be renewed under the earlier provisions.
Officials said there was confusion among departments that employees already working on contract might also be shifted to the trainee or job trainee category under the new rules. The government’s clarification has brought relief to hundreds of contract employees across the state.
Employees had earlier expressed concerns that if the trainee system was applied to them, it could affect their salary structure and service conditions. With the latest decision, those who were appointed before February 20, 2025 will continue under the previous arrangement and become eligible for regularization after completing the stipulated contract period.
