Shimla: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the President of India has appointed Kavinder Gupta, currently serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, as the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
As part of the same move, the incumbent Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has been appointed as the Governor of Telangana. The appointments were announced through an official notification issued by the President’s office and will take effect from the dates they assume charge.
About Kavinder Gupta
Kavinder Gupta is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a prominent political figure from Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir. He has held several important administrative and political positions during his long public career.
Gupta served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018 for a brief period during the BJP–PDP coalition government. Before that, he was elected as the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly after winning the Jammu West Assembly seat.
He also has extensive experience in local governance, having served as the Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation for several years. Known for his organizational skills and administrative experience, Gupta has remained an influential BJP leader in the region.
Shiv Pratap Shukla’s New Role
Meanwhile, Shiv Pratap Shukla, who has been serving as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh since February 2023, has now been appointed as the Governor of Telangana. A veteran BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, Shukla has previously served as a Union Minister of State for Finance and has been a member of the Rajya Sabha.
The reshuffle is part of the Centre’s broader administrative changes in gubernatorial positions across states.
