Former chief minister and opposition leader Jairam Thakur met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to apprise him of the state’s disaster-related losses. In order to give land to those who lost their homes and land in the tragedy, he called for a revision of the Forest Protection Act. He also requested a program tailored to his locality. Jairam Thakur informed the prime minister that 42 persons died in Seraj, Karsog, and Nachan on the evening of June 30. 29 individuals lost their life and almost Rs 1,000 crore was lost in the Seraj Assembly constituency alone.
In order to prevent more losses, he also requested the prime minister to research the state’s natural catastrophe causes. He said that the state has lost over Rs 1,200 crore as a result of the calamity. During this period, 1,000 homes were damaged and rendered unfit for habitation, while over 500 homes were totally swept away. In addition to Seraj, Dharampur, Karsog, and Nachan have all sustained significant losses. People are sleeping outside in Dharampur’s Syathi village, which has been totally destroyed. As a result, he has asked for an assistance package tailored to the area for rebuilding and rehabilitation.
He urged the central government to provide all possible support in reconstruction and rehabilitation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the Leader of the Opposition that the central government stands with the state government in this hour of disaster. In such a situation, whatever help is possible from the central government, that help will be provided. He said that earlier also the central government has provided help to the state under disaster relief. The Leader of the Opposition thanked the Prime Minister for this.
