Shimla, March 10, 2026 — A case of theft was reported in Krishna Nagar area of Shimla where two gas cylinders were stolen from a house while the family was away on a pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi. Acting swiftly, Sadar Police arrested the accused within 24 hours of the complaint.
According to police, the complainant Pawan Kumar, a resident of Krishna Nagar, had left for Mata Vaishno Devi with his family on March 5. When he returned home on March 9, he found the kitchen lock broken and two gas cylinders missing. Following his complaint, Sadar Police registered a case under Sections 305(A) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police received a tip-off from an informer that a youth named Aniket, also a resident of Krishna Nagar, was seen carrying gas cylinders towards Lalpani on March 7. Acting on this information, police launched a search operation in Downdale, Railway Parking and the Old Bus Stand area.
The accused, Aniket, was detained from Downdale. During questioning, he failed to give a satisfactory explanation and was subsequently arrested.
Police said that further interrogation is underway and efforts are being made to recover the stolen gas cylinders. The swift action by the police has been widely appreciated in the area.
