Shimla: Questions over the safety of schoolgirls have surfaced again in Himachal Pradesh after a minor student was allegedly attacked with a knife in the Nankhari area of Shimla district. The incident took place on March 6, but the accused are still absconding.
Police have registered a case at Nankhari Police Station under Sections 126(2), 115(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complaint filed by the victim, 16-year-old Simran, a resident of Nankhari, the incident occurred around 1 pm when she was passing through Nittu Mor near Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Khuni. Two unidentified men allegedly stopped her on the way, assaulted her and later attacked her with a knife.
The girl sustained injuries on her left hand during the attack. She somehow managed to escape from the spot and reached a safe place before informing the police.
The victim was taken for a medical examination, which confirmed a deep wound on her hand. Doctors stitched the injury during treatment.
Police registered the case based on the girl’s complaint and launched an investigation. The probe is being carried out by Head Constable Diwan Chand of Nankhari Police Station.
SI Ramesh Negi from Nankhari Police Station said the girl’s medical examination had been conducted and further investigation was underway.
“Police teams are trying to identify the attackers. People in nearby areas are being questioned and information is being collected from those present near the spot to trace the accused,” he said.
However, the police have not yet succeeded in arresting the attackers. The investigation is ongoing.
