Shimla: Senior BJP leader Harsh Mahajan on Thursday said policy and structural reforms introduced by the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi have significantly transformed India’s business environment.
Mahajan said the number of companies registered in India increased from around 1.55 lakh in 2020–21 to 1.98 lakh by February 3, 2026, marking an increase of nearly 27%. He said the reforms aimed at improving ease of doing business have provided a strong boost to entrepreneurship and investment.
Referring to the Union Budget 2026–27, he said several initiatives such as digital trade facilitation, tax certainty, reduced regulations and litigation, a trust-based customs system and an investment-friendly tax regime have strengthened the country’s business ecosystem and boosted investor confidence.
Mahajan added that schemes such as Startup India, credit guarantee programmes, digital credit appraisal models and financial support to MSMEs have helped build a transparent and technology-driven environment for investors. He said India had more than 2.16 lakh recognised startups by February 2026.
He also highlighted reforms such as the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and measures to reduce regulatory compliance burden, which he said have improved industry confidence.
Mahajan said these reforms are also benefiting Himachal Pradesh, where youth are starting new ventures in sectors such as tourism, IT services, agriculture-based industries and MSMEs.
He said the Centre’s business-friendly policies have created new opportunities for entrepreneurs in the state and will help both India and Himachal reach new heights of economic growth in the coming years.
