There is a crisis over mustard oil in cheap ration depots. In the depots, consumers have not been getting oil for the last 2 months, while in many depots, the quota of pulses has also been exhausted. Due to this, lakhs of consumers have to return empty-handed from depots without mustard oil. Due to the crisis of mustard oil in the depots, people are forced to buy 180 rupees a liter of oil from the market. Mustard oil is currently being provided to APL and BPL consumers at Rs 123 per litre.
This same mustard oil is being given to taxpayer cardholders at the rate of Rs 129 per litre. Last month, during the festive season, the government had also given the facility to consumers to go to depots and buy mustard oil as per their need, but this claim of the government was defeated within a few days. Director of Food Civil Supplies Department Ram Kumar Gautam says that tenders are being made. Oil will soon be made available to consumers.
