The three-day National Law Fest, organised by the Center for Clinical Legal Education (CCLE), Faculty of Legal Sciences, Shoolini University, began today at Shoolini University.
The first edition of the National Law Fest would takeplace over three days Wednesday and includes a moot court competition, client counseling, crime scene investigation, and a legislative competition. During the three-day festival, judges and advocates from the Supreme Court, the High Courts of Punjab and Haryana, Delhi, and Shimla, as well as academicians from other universities, will judge the various rounds. Around 100 delegates are traveling from prestigious law schools and colleges, including the National Law University, and public and private universities.
Justice Chander Bhushan Barowalia, Lokayukta, Himachal Pradesh, would be presiding over the valedictory ceremony and prize distribution function and judging the moot court finale along with Prof. Nishtha Jaswal, Vice Chancellor, HPNLU. The five-judge bench will also include former session judge Sh. B. L. Soni, senior advocate R.L. Sood, and Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Sindhu, dean of the Department of Law HPU.
Dr. Renu Pal Sood, Director, the Centre for Clinical Legal Education, said the value of practical application and soft skills can never be underestimated in the legal profession, and clinical legal education is the only way theory and practice can be brought together. The Center for Clinical Legal Education aims to bring such activities within the mainstream curriculum so that students can be industry ready just after the course. The idea was to make the event “For The Students, Of The Students, and By The Students.” She added.
CCLE is Dr. Renu Pal Sood’s vision to support various activities and interests among students. The center is also working on developing attitudes and skills, articulating values, making ethical decisions, and increasing students’ confidence and responsibility in a clinical setting.
Another major attraction at the law festival is a book exhibition, in which major publishing houses such as HP Hamilton, SCC, Lexis Nexis, CBS Publications, New Age Publications, Young Global, and SmartBook India will be showcasing books on a variety of subjects, including fiction, nonfiction, and textbooks.
