Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Solan, Himachal Pradesh celebrated First National Space Day on 23rd August 2024 with a series of engaging and educational events aimed at promoting interest in space science and exploration. A total of 130 students from different schools registered for the event. The schools that participated in the event were Delhi World Public School, Kandaghat, Elite International School, Genius Global School, Solan, Tagore Vanasthali Public School, Kasauli, GSSS Bhoj Anji Solan, Govt. Model SSS Barotiwala, GSSS Salogara and Him Academy, Waknaghat.
The celebration included an expert talk, a declamation contest, a poster competition, and a model making competition. The event was a resounding success, showcasing the enthusiasm and creativity of the students and all the participants. The day began with an enlightening expert talk delivered by Dr. Harish Chandra Karnatak, a renowned space scientist from ISRO. Dr. Harish shared invaluable insights into “the latest advancements in satellite technology” or “the future of human space exploration. The talk highlighted recent achievements in the field, discussed ongoing research, and provided a glimpse into upcoming missions.
Dr. Harish emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in space exploration and inspired the audience with stories of pioneering missions and discoveries. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where students actively engaged with the expert, asking questions about the practical challenges and exciting opportunities in space science.
Following the expert talk, the declamation contest featured participants who delivered passionate speeches on various space-related topics. The themes ranged from the potential for life on other planets to the ethical implications of space colonization.
The contestants demonstrated exceptional oratory skills, combining scientific knowledge with persuasive arguments and creative expressions. Judges evaluated the speeches based on content, delivery, and originality. The winners were awarded for their impactful presentations, and the contest was a testament to the participants’ deep interest in and understanding of space science. The poster competition showcased the artistic and scientific talents of school students. Participants created visually captivating posters that illustrated various aspects of space science, including celestial phenomena, space missions, and the solar system.
The posters were evaluated based on creativity, clarity, and informational value. The top entries not only displayed impressive artistic skills but also conveyed complex scientific concepts in an accessible manner. The winning posters were displayed in a dedicated exhibition area, allowing attendees to appreciate the students’ efforts and learn more about space through their work. The model making competition featured detailed and imaginative models related to space exploration. Students crafted models of rockets, spacecraft, and celestial bodies, showcasing their technical skills and creativity.
The models were judged on accuracy, craftsmanship, and overall design. Participants demonstrated a high level of detail and innovation, with some models incorporating moving parts and interactive elements. The competition highlighted the students’ ability to translate theoretical knowledge into tangible representations of space technology and exploration. The National Space Day celebration at JUIT was a resounding success, bringing together students, faculty, and experts in a shared appreciation for space science. The expert talk provided valuable insights into the field, while the declamation contest, poster competition, and model making competition allowed participants to express their passion and creativity.
The event fostered a greater understanding of space science and inspired participants to continue exploring and learning about the universe. JUIT looks forward to future events that celebrate scientific discovery and innovation.
