A meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap for the successful organization of National Nutrition Month-2025. He informed that under the Poshan Abhiyan started in the year 2018, the month of September is celebrated as National Nutrition Month every year. This year, from 17 September to 16 October 2025, the 8th Poshan Maah will be celebrated through various activities in the entire district. This time the theme has been decided as “Right Nutrition, Healthy Life”.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the main objective of the Nutrition Month is to eliminate malnutrition and create a healthy society. For this, this year special emphasis will be given on topics like controlling obesity by reducing the consumption of sugar, salt and oil, Vocal for Local, nutrition as well as education under Early Education and Care (ECCE), dietary practices of infants and young children, participation of men, convergence activities and digitalization. Various programs will be organized on these points at the district, block, panchayat, circle and Anganwadi level.
He informed that on September 17, 2025, the Prime Minister will launch the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan and monetary assistance will be provided to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. He said that by organizing activities in all the 2154 Anganwadi centers of the district, Poshan Maah will be made a mass movement so that the district can be made malnutrition free. He also appealed to the general public to ensure active participation in this campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner said that many types of vegetable products and dishes are available in Shimla district, such as Guchhi, Lingaad etc., which are highly nutritious for children. He urged that those who market these should also feed these to their children so that proper nutrition of children can be ensured. Special emphasis should be laid on including local products and dishes available in different areas of the district in the diet of children.
He instructed all the child development project officers and block coordinators to cultivate spinach in all the 2154 Anganwadi centres of the district so that the nutritious elements of green vegetables can be included in the diet of children. Apart from this, emphasis was also laid on preparing a diet package for each area and taking the services of yoga guides of the Ayush department in Anganwadi centres, so that the all-round development of children can be ensured.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that work should be done on the development of children not just for one month but for the entire 12 months. It is the collective responsibility of all departments that no child should be deprived of proper nutrition. He said that children are the biggest asset of any nation and the foundation of its bright future. Their education, culture, health and positive thinking determine the direction and condition of India. Therefore, it is the primary responsibility of every family, society and nation to ensure the all-round development of children.
District Program Officer Women and Child Development Department Mamta Paul, Child Development Project Officer and officers of Health, Education and Agriculture Department were also present in the meeting.
