Shimla: The POCSO Act case against BJP MLA Hansraj from Churah in Chamba district has taken a fresh turn, with the victim moving the Himachal Pradesh High Court challenging the regular bail granted to him by a lower court.
Taking cognisance of the plea, the High Court has issued notices to Hansraj and other concerned parties.
Four Weeks Given to State Government
The matter was heard by a single bench of Justice Rakesh Kainthla, which directed the state government to file a detailed reply within four weeks. The court has not made any observations on the merits of the case at this stage.
Advocates BL Soni and Nitin Soni appeared on behalf of the victim, while Additional Advocate General Jitender Sharma represented the state.
Background of the Case
The case has remained in the spotlight since 2024. In August 2024, the victim lodged a complaint alleging obscene chats and pressure by the MLA, following which an FIR was registered on August 16, 2024, at the women police station in Chamba.
After initially recording her statement in court, the victim later retracted her allegations and termed the matter a “misunderstanding” during a social media live session.
However, in October 2025, the controversy resurfaced when the victim released another video alleging that her family had been ruined and that she faced threats to her life.
In November 2025, the victim’s father alleged that associates of the MLA had abducted his daughter and forced her to change her statement. Hansraj was granted regular bail by a Chamba court on November 27, 2025.
The victim has now argued before the High Court that the bail was granted on improper grounds and should be cancelled. The next hearing will be held after the state government files its response.
