Snowfall continues in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh while it is raining in other parts including Shimla. Cold wave has increased in the state due to the current rain and snowfall. Due to snowfall in the state, four national highways and 518 roads were closed for traffic. At the same time, 478 power transformers are also closed. Due to this, blackout is going on in many parts. There is fog along with rain in the low-lying areas.
The weather has once again changed in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti. The period of snowfall and rain has started in Kullu and Lahaul. Due to fresh snowfall, vehicular movement to Lahaul via Atal Tunnel Rohtang has stopped. In such a situation, Lahaul’s contact with Kullu has been cut off. Since late Sunday night, it has been snowing in high altitude areas and raining in low lying areas.
Atal Tunnel Rohtang has received 15 cm of fresh snowfall in North, 12 cm in South Portal and 9 cm in Sissu. Due to rain and snowfall, the miseries of the people have increased. The wheels of buses have stopped on the routes in rural areas. The valley has been hit by severe cold.
Meteorological Center Shimla has predicted rain and snowfall in many areas of central and high hill districts till February 5. There is a possibility of rain in the plains. Today there is a yellow alert of heavy snowfall in Kullu, Chamba, Shimla, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts.
