The ration card portability scheme has failed in Himachal Pradesh. People are not getting rations in the depot under this scheme. Under this scheme, consumers can take rations from any depot anywhere in Himachal. But the ration card is not being entered in the POSH machines installed in the depot. In such a situation, consumers are facing problems. Initially, people started getting rations under this scheme. After this, due to repeated malfunctions in the software, the plan was not able to come to fruition.
Now the Food, Civil and Consumer Affairs Department is trying to complete this scheme under NIC.
It has been almost three years since this scheme was implemented in Himachal. This scheme was started in four districts. But now the system has come to a standstill. This scheme was started on trial in many depots of Himachal. Through online registration, members of many families were found whose names are in the ration card at two places. In such a situation, they were not given ration by the department. Food, Civil and Consumer Affairs Department Director Ram Kumar Gautam said that the system will be fine after a week. This scheme is being started after talking to NIC.
There are 19.5 lakh ration card consumers in Himachal Pradesh. The state government is providing three pulses (Malka, Maash, Dal Chana), two liters of oil (refined and mustard), 500 grams of sugar, and one kilo of salt per person on subsidy to the consumers per ration card. Apart from this, the Central Government is providing flour and rice on subsidy.
People’s ration cards are getting blocked if they do not take cheap ration from the depot for three months. Problems are being faced by those people who have come from villages and are living in the city. In such a situation, people have to go home and get ration.
