The Himachal Pradesh government has reorganized the State Supervisory Board under the provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994. Orders have been passed in this regard in the notification issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare (dated September 3, 2025).


According to the information, the Health Minister will be the Chairman of the new board, while the Health Secretary has been made the Vice-Chairman. Various senior officers and public representatives have been included in the board, including Secretary (SIE), Secretary (AYUSH), Secretary (Legislative Assembly), Director of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Radiologist of IGMC Shimla, Director of the National Health Mission and Director of Medical Education and Research, who will be the key members.
Apart from this, two MLAs – Reena Kashyap (Pachhad) and Kamlesh Thakur (Dehra), including Solan Ward No. 4 Councilor Sangeet Thakur—have also been included as members. According to the notification, various non-governmental and social representatives have also been given place in the board. These include advocates, social workers and people associated with health services.
The new supervisory board will work for the prevention of sex selection and effective implementation of the PC-PNDT Act, 1994. The government says that this step will curb female foeticide and increase awareness.
