Deputy Commissioner Solan Manmohan Sharma directed the officers of the Food and Civil Supplies Department to ensure that the quality and stock of food grains and the weight of LPG cylinders are checked from time to time at fair price shops. Manmohan Sharma was presiding over the review meeting of the Public Distribution System and District Level Vigilance Committee here today.
Manmohan Sharma said that there are 347 fair price shops in the district. Out of these, 206 are being run by cooperative societies, 131 by individuals, 03 by Mahila Mandals and 07 by Gram Panchayats.
He said that from May to August, 2025, about 9694 quintals of sugar, about 42362 quintals of rice, about 70315 flour, about 7520 quintals of pulses (urad, dal chana, malka), about 1556 quintals of iodized salt and 491132 liters of edible oil have been distributed under the public distribution system by fair price shops in Solan district.
He said that there are 20 LPG gas agencies operating in the district. LPG is being distributed to 2,05,510 gas consumers through these agencies.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the officers of the concerned department to keep inspecting the fair price shops from time to time so that better quality food items are available to the consumers at reasonable prices along with the bill. He instructed the concerned officers to inspect the weight of the cylinders from time to time. He instructed the officers to ensure the supply of food items during the festival season as well as pay special attention to the quality.
Manmohan Sharma said that under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, 15 kg rice and 18 kg fortified wheat flour is being provided per card to the selected ration card holders.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to inspect the mid-day meal ration from time to time.
In the meeting, opening of shops was also discussed as per the applications received from various places in the district for opening fair price shops.
District Controller Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Shravan Kumar Himalayan provided detailed information about the departmental working system and essential items.
On this occasion, District Council Chairman Ramesh Thakur, Deputy Superintendent of Police Solan Anil Dholta, District Program Officer Dr. Padam Dev and officers of various departments were present.
