Shimla: A colourful Mother’s Day celebration was organised by Shamrock Roses Play School, Kachighati, at Hip Hip Hurley in Kufri, where children and their mothers shared joyful and emotional moments together.
The event, dedicated to the special bond between mother and child, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and parents. Children made their mothers feel special by presenting gifts and taking part in various activities, filling the atmosphere with love, happiness and excitement.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Preeti Chuttani said that the relationship between a mother and child is the most precious bond in the world. She said a mother’s love is selfless and filled with sacrifice and dedication for the happiness and better future of her children.
She added that while every day is important for mothers, Mother’s Day gives children an opportunity to express gratitude, respect and affection towards them.
During the programme, innocent performances by children and the smiles on the faces of mothers created an emotional and cheerful atmosphere.
Highlighting the significance of the day, Chuttani said Mother’s Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May. She also shared the history of the occasion, stating that its roots trace back to ancient Greece and Rome, where festivals were held in honour of mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.
She further said that modern Mother’s Day began in the early 1900s through the efforts of Anna Jarvis, who organised the first official celebration in 1908 at a Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. In 1914, then US President Woodrow Wilson declared Mother’s Day a national holiday in the United States.
The celebration at Hip Hip Hurley Kufri beautifully showcased the importance of mothers and strengthened the emotional bond between children and parents.
