Solan, September 19
Shoolini University, known for its commitment to cleanliness and sustainability, witnessed a remarkable display of civic responsibility as it hosted the 8th edition of Swachhta Pakhwada. The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness, emphasising the importance of maintaining a pristine environment at tourist destinations nationwide.
Under the guidance of the respective faculties, each department undertook a cleanliness drive that spanned from the bridge near the university to the student hostels and every nook and cranny within the campus. Participating faculties included Sciences, Legal Sciences, Liberal Arts and Ancient Indian Wisdom, Applied Sciences and Biotech and Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Management Sciences, and Engineering and Technology.
Another event organised on the occasion was a poster-making competition. The campus buzzed with creativity as approximately 70 students from various departments participated in a poster-making competition. Their artistic expressions revolved around the themes of “Swachhata” (cleanliness) and “Meri Shoolini Swachh Shoolini” (My Shoolini, Clean Shoolini). This competition not only showcased their artistic talents but also their dedication to promoting cleanliness.
Dean Student Welfare, Mrs. Poonam Nanda, said, “After being part of a cleaning campaign, you can never be on the side of the litterer.” She also proudly highlighted that Shoolini University’s commitment to cleanliness is evident in the presence of conveniently located dustbins throughout the campus, contributing to the institution’s reputation as one of the cleanest campuses in the country.
One of the most striking achievements of this Swachhta Pakhwada was the participation of more than 1000 students, who collectively collected a staggering 30 garbage bags, symbolising their determination to keep their campus clean. To ensure transparency and accountability, photographs were taken and geotagged for time and location references.
The primary objective of this campaign was to instill a sense of “Jan Bhagidari” (public participation) and raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness.
In recognition of their outstanding efforts, trophies and vouchers were awarded to the top-scoring teams in the poster-making competition.
