In an official order issued by Chief Engineer (Operation), Kangra Zone, Er. Ajay Gautam, all Assistant Engineers (Electrical) under Kangra Zone have been instructed to prepare and submit detailed lists of serving and retired HPSEBL employees within their respective jurisdictions.
The directive states that Smart Meters shall be installed or replaced on priority at the homes of serving and retired employees. Even in cases where the electricity connection is not registered in the employee’s name but the premises are occupied by them, the replacement will be carried out on a priority basis.
The Board clarified that the initiative aims to instill confidence among the general public regarding the Smart Metering Project and to demonstrate transparency, reliability, and trust in the system. It further emphasized that the Smart Metering Project is purely a technological upgradation initiative intended to enhance transparency, billing efficiency, and consumer services, and has no connection whatsoever with privatization.
Assistant Engineers have been directed to personally monitor the implementation process and ensure time-bound completion. Weekly progress reports will be submitted to the concerned office.
