Runners Blend Sport with Social Service at Juari Fair.
Kullu/Manali: Participants of the upcoming Snow Marathon League, including runners from India and abroad, went beyond sport to showcase a spirit of social responsibility and community engagement during the Juari (Zuari) Fair in Sarsai.
As part of the event’s outreach programme, a medical camp was organised at the Juari Mela ground, where both athletes and local residents received health services. Dr. Gurmeet Singh and Shyam Singh from Fortis Hospital, Mohali conducted check-ups, while free consultations and medicines were distributed. Around 150 local residents benefited from the initiative.
In another effort to give back to the community, nearly 40 runners and volunteers participated in a cleanliness drive near the mela site on Friday. The two-hour अभियान focused on plastic waste collection, resulting in around 15 bags of garbage, including plastic bottles, wrappers, bags and broken glass. Volunteers also urged residents and shopkeepers to promote proper waste disposal, especially among children.
Organisers appreciated the initiative, highlighting that such efforts help preserve Manali’s reputation as a clean and world-renowned tourist destination.
Meanwhile, due to heavy snowfall and disruption at the Atal Tunnel, the Snow Marathon League has been rescheduled to Sunday and relocated to Sethan, situated at an altitude of around 9,500 feet. The event will feature a 50-km ultra run, walkathon across categories, and “Snow Tails” — a unique dog race where participants run alongside their pets.
The blend of sportsmanship and social service has added a meaningful dimension to the Snow Marathon League, setting an example for community-driven events.
