Congress Wiped Out in Himachal, Sukhu’s Chair Under Threat: Jai Ram Thakur

BJP Claims Massive Panchayat Poll Sweep in Seraj, Wins 24 of 26 Panchayats

Mandi, May 29: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government following the second phase of Panchayati Raj elections, claiming that the party has been “wiped out” across Himachal Pradesh and that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is facing growing pressure due to the government’s poor performance.

Addressing the media, Thakur alleged that the Congress government has failed to deliver on its promises during its three-and-a-half-year tenure and accused it of financial mismanagement, halting development works and burdening people with additional taxes. He claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government was reflected in the Panchayati Raj election results.

The BJP leader further alleged that senior Congress leaders, ministers and even the Deputy Chief Minister failed to secure victories for their preferred candidates in their respective areas. He said the election outcome demonstrated growing public anger against the state government.

Thakur also accused the government of shutting down several public institutions opened in the public interest and claimed that some Congress leaders had distanced themselves from the party due to dissatisfaction with the government’s functioning.

During his visit to Lehthach Panchayat in the Seraj Assembly constituency, Thakur met newly elected Panchayat representatives and congratulated them on their victory. He expressed confidence that they would work sincerely for grassroots development and strengthen local self-governance.

Claiming a strong performance by BJP-backed candidates, Thakur said that in the second phase of Panchayat elections, BJP-supported candidates won in 24 out of 26 Panchayats in the Seraj Assembly constituency, while in the first phase they secured victories in 25 out of 28 Panchayats. He described the results as a reflection of growing public support for the BJP and dissatisfaction with the Congress government.

Sukhu Govt Trying to Hijack Municipal, Panchayati Raj Polls: BJP’s Bindal

Shimla, May 22: BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal has accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu of attempting to “hijack” the ongoing municipal and Panchayati Raj elections in Himachal Pradesh by changing rules during the election process.

Addressing the media in Shimla, Dr. Bindal alleged that the Congress government was rattled by the BJP’s strong performance in the recent municipal elections and was now trying to influence the outcome by introducing new rules related to the election of Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons.

He termed the move a “direct attack on democracy and the Constitution,” claiming that changing election rules midway through the process amounted to undermining the people’s mandate.

Dr. Bindal further alleged that the state government was trying to pressure elected representatives through fear, threats and money power to secure votes in its favour. He said such actions were against the democratic traditions of Himachal Pradesh and accused the Congress of misusing government machinery to retain political control.

“The people of Himachal Pradesh are fed up with the Congress government’s anti-people policies and abuse of power. The BJP will strongly oppose any attempt to suppress the democratic mandate,” he said.

The BJP leader warned that if the government tried to tamper with the election process, the party would launch a statewide agitation from the streets to the Assembly.
