In a landmark move set to transform the landscape of Sports Development in India, THDC India Limited (THDCIL) and the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) signed a Memorandum of Association (MoA) to establish a cutting-edge Sports Science Centre Hall at THDCIL-IKCA High-Performance Water Sports Academy, Koteshwar, Uttarakhand
R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, emphasizing the significance of the initiative said that THDC India Limited apart from its committed to setting new standards in the Energy Sector is equally prioritizing the overall Socio-Economic development of the Nation. This MoA underscores the collaborative efforts of Power sector for the development of State-of-Art Sports Infrastructure in the country. The establishment of the High-Performance Water Sports Academy at Koteshwar is a testament to our vision of harnessing the potential of Hydro Projects to set new benchmarks in both the Energy and Sports sectors.
Vishnoi added that this MOA aligns perfectly with this year’s CSR theme of “Health and Nutrition,” as approved by Government of India. This initiative will create a robust platform for nurturing athletic talent and elevating India’s presence in the global sports arena. The Sports Science Centre facility will be specifically designed to support and enhance training for athletes specializing in Kayaking and Canoeing.
Pradip Kumar Das, CMD, IREDA, emphasized that the mandate under CSR of IREDA is to aim towards sustainable development and capacity building of human capital. Sports aims to develop human potential.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in sports can help develop sports, improve community well-being, and shape athletes and communities. CSR activities can include: Infrastructure development , improve training, and promote skill development in sports. He added that there is lot of athletic potential in Uttarakhand and such an academy/centre shall cater to nourishing,training and empowering young athletes to win laurels for our Nation. He reaffirmed the collaborative support of IREDA towards such initiatives.
Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel) THDCIL conveyed his heartfelt happiness on the signing of this memorable MoA and said that this Partnership with IREDA marks the beginning of a transformative collaboration between Public Sector Undertakings aimed at promoting Sports Excellence of the Nation. The creation of a Water Sports Infrastructure facility represents a giant leap towards our commitment to improving health in Human Capital and creating assets for future generations. This milestone will go a long way in motivating them towards sports activities and bringing laurels to the Nation.
Singh added that SEWA-THDC, a not-for-profit society sponsored by THDCIL, will be responsible for the execution of the project. The completion and operationalization of the Sports Science Centre Hall is anticipated to provide a significant boost to India’s competitive edge at International Sports events. This initiative will set a precedent for future collaborations and inspire other organizations to join in fostering sports development.
