Adding another feather to its cap, three former students of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni have brought laurels to the university by securing three out of the four posts in the prestigious Scientist ‘B’ (Forestry) Examination conducted by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun, in January this year. The results were declared earlier this week.
The successful candidates—Jatin Kumar, Uday Kumar Lodh, and Deepshikha Singh—are all alumni of the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, College of Forestry.
Jatin Kumar, a resident of Sihardi, Dharampur (Solan), secured the top rank in the forestry discipline in the examination. He completed his Ph.D. in Agroforestry in 2024 under the guidance of Dr D.R. Bhardwaj, with an outstanding OGPA of 8.96/10, and was the departmental topper. Uday Kumar Lodh, hailing from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, completed his Ph.D. in Forestry in 2023 with an OGPA of 8.18/10 under the guidance of Dr C.L. Thakur. Deepshikha Singh from Bhagalpur, Bihar, completed her M.Sc. in Forestry in 2022 with an OGPA of 8.37/10 under the guidance of Dr D.R. Bhardwaj.
Their remarkable success in one of the most competitive examinations in the field of forestry reflects their hard work, perseverance, and academic excellence. It also underscores the quality education, strong research orientation, and mentorship provided by the university. The students of the Department of Silviculture have been consistently securing top ranks in various national level competitive examinations.
Congratulating the students, Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel termed the achievement a proud moment for the university. He said that the selection reflects the dedication of both the students and their mentors. He expressed confidence that these young scientists will contribute significantly to the nation’s forestry sector with integrity and excellence. Dean, College of Forestry, Dr C.L. Thakur, along with faculty members of the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, also congratulated the students and wished them success in their future endeavour.
