Shimla, 12 February
A disturbing incident has surfaced from the Rohru subdivision, where an unknown person allegedly mixed a toxic pesticide into a village drinking water tank, endangering nearly 200 lives.
The incident took place in Bareshtu village of Rohru. A local resident first noticed a strong chemical smell in the water on February 8 and alerted others, preventing its consumption.
Water samples collected by the Jal Shakti Department confirmed the presence of a pesticide used in apple orchards. Officials said the chemical could cause serious health issues, including vomiting, dizziness, and breathing problems.
The contaminated tank supplies water to around 30 households. Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons and launched an investigation. The water supply has been suspended, and alternative arrangements have been made for the villagers.
