Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, has kicked off its annual Van Mahotsav drive, marking the beginning of a month-long afforestation initiative across the university and its outstations. The drive includes activities on the main campus, the Regional Horticultural Research and Training Station, and the Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
Throughout the month, each department within the university and outstations will host individual events under the Van Mahotsav campaign. These events will feature plantation drives involving a variety of forest and horticulture plants. The campaign will culminate on August 4, celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. YS Parmar.
The Department of Plant Pathology launched the drive on Saturday with a plantation event and a parthenium eradication campaign on the department farms. The Head of the department, along with scientists, staff, and students, participated enthusiastically. Over 100 lime and hill lemon (galgal) plants were planted during the event.
Dr. SK Sharma, Head of the Department of Plant Pathology, emphasized the critical role of afforestation in combating soil erosion and supporting conservation efforts. He encouraged students and staff to actively participate in similar initiatives and to ensure the survival of the trees they plant.
A plantation drive was also held at the University’s Regional Horticulture Research and training Station, Dhaulakuan.
