Solan, March 7:
Deputy Commissioner Solan Manmohan Sharma said that women empowerment is the basis of social development and the district administration is making continuous efforts to ensure that women benefit from various government schemes.
He was addressing a programme organized to celebrate International Women’s Day by the Women and Child Development Department in Solan.
Extending greetings on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that women play a crucial role in the development of society. He added that the aim of celebrating Women’s Day is to recognize the contribution of women and create awareness about their rights.
Sharma said that today women are working shoulder to shoulder with men in every field and are proving their talent in areas such as sports, politics, administration and the armed forces.
He added that the state government is implementing several welfare schemes to empower women, promote self-reliance and increase their contribution to the state’s economy.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers, stating that they are playing a significant role in improving women’s health and spreading awareness about welfare schemes, particularly in rural areas.
On the occasion, social workers Vijay Lamba and Shanti Jaswal were honoured for their contribution towards women empowerment. Anganwadi workers from Chuhuwala, Kalujhinda, Chakhar Baghar, Koron and Dolg centres were also felicitated for their excellent work.
Mayor of Municipal Corporation Solan Usha Sharma and Colonel Sanjay Shandil also shared their views on the importance of women empowerment.
Under the Beti Janmotsav programme, newborn girls were honoured to promote the message of celebrating the birth of a girl child.
The event also featured various competitions including musical chairs and balloon pop, while Anganwadi workers from Subathu, Devthi and Solan circles presented cultural performances.
District Programme Officer ICDS Dr Padam Dev Sharma welcomed the chief guest and informed the gathering about the schemes being implemented by the department. CDPO Solan Kavita Gautam presented the vote of thanks.
Councillors of Municipal Corporation Solan, Poonam Shandil, former BDC members Manish Thakur and Ved Prakash, State Congress Social Media spokesperson Shobhit Bahl, former Urban Congress Committee President Ankush Sood, Deepak Atri, Kuldeep Verma, Kunal Sood, Saurabh Pal, former Deputy Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Basal Anil Sharma, District Welfare Officer Vivek Arora, along with Anganwadi and ASHA workers and a large number of women were present at the programme.
