After Atal Tunnel Rohtang in Himachal, now the world’s highest Shinkula Tunnel will be built. BRO DG Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhary said that after Atal Tunnel Rohtang, BRO is going to construct the world’s highest tunnel. Rs 1861 crore will be spent on the construction of the tunnel. This tunnel is important in many ways. This tunnel will be the third and safest option to reach the logistics border. Chaudhary said that at present the first option for Leh Ladakh is Zojila Pass, which is adjacent to the Pakistan border area. Another option is the Baralacha Pass, which is adjacent to the China border. Now this third route will be built at Shinkula Pass. This route will be in the middle away from the border of both the countries. In such a situation, this route will be very important. The construction work of tunnel is going on on a war footing between Srinagar-Leh at Zojila pass.
Chaudhary said that the plan to connect Spiti with Leh is also ready. He was talking to reporters at the North Portal of Atal Tunnel on Saturday after visiting Shinkula and Baralacha Pass. He said that the tunnel will be built at a height of 15,500 feet above sea level. The 4.12 km long Shinkula tunnel will be the highest and longest tunnel to be built in the world.
He said that the construction of Nimu Padum Shinkula Darcha Marg would improve the standard of living of the people of Zanskar Valley, who are still deprived of electricity and road facilities. On the other hand, due to the formation of Shinkula tunnel, the enemy will not be able to know about the movement of army vehicles. The Zanskar Valley of Leh Ladakh will remain connected to the rest of the world for 9 to 10 months. Earlier this area used to open only for 5 months via Leh Kargil.
