Shimla: The 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference began today in Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. It is noteworthy that it is being jointly organized by the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference and the Parliament of Barbados. While representatives from 56 countries participated in the conference, the Indian delegation included Om Birla, President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region, along with Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania. Presiding officers and deputy presiding officers from various Indian state legislatures also participated. The conference began after completing all formalities in the Barbados Parliament. The conference will be held from October 8th to 13th. Following the inauguration, all Indian delegates gathered at the main entrance of the Barbados Parliament for a group photo. Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said that the Commonwealth comprises 56 member states, descended from the British Empire and shared values such as democracy, peace, and development. He said that it is a voluntary association of countries that includes a diverse range of countries, including advanced economies and small island nations.
Pathania said that the Commonwealth of Nations is an association of 56 independent nations that promotes cooperation among its member states. Its roots lie in the British Empire, but today any country can join the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth includes countries from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Pacific. Currently, the association includes both advanced economies and developing countries.
Kuldeep Singh Pathania will deliver his first address as an Indian delegate to the Barbados Parliament tomorrow. Kuldeep Pathania will deliver his address on three different days on the topics selected for the conference. Pathania will deliver his address on the topic ” Strengthening our Institutions to Support Democracy ” at the Barbados Parliament in Bridgetown tomorrow. Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar and Legislative Assembly Secretary Yash Pal Sharma will also be present at the conference.
