Shimla, May 15: The two-day district level fair at Sipur, adjacent to Mashobra, was formally inaugurated today by 90-year-old Murtu, an elderly woman from the local Sipur village, as the chief guest.
On this occasion, he stated that women’s empowerment means empowering all women and ensuring their equal development. He added that women’s empowerment truly means giving women the freedom to speak openly, the ability to make their own decisions, and the right to live their lives as they choose. He added that due to government efforts, women are becoming empowered in every field and are helping their families progress socially and economically.
The convener of the fair committee welcomed the chief guest and informed that this fair has been organized continuously for the past 37 years with the committee’s support. He said that for the first time, it has been unanimously decided that, as a step towards women’s empowerment, the oldest woman in the region will be made the chief guest at the fair’s opening ceremony, and today this has come to fruition.
36 teams are participating in the volleyball competition.
He said that to make the fair more attractive, in addition to cultural competitions including volleyball and kabaddi, a women’s kabaddi competition has also been organized. He said that so far, 18 teams have arrived for the volleyball competition, 8 for the men’s kabaddi competition, and 10 for the women’s kabaddi competition, and the competition has begun.
Cultural performances by schools
He said that children from the Government Primary School, Mashobra, Bagthal School, Moolkoti School, Maya Public School, Model Education School, Mashobra, and Sophia School, Mashobra have been invited to participate in the colorful cultural programs. Various schools presented their performances today.
He said that a health camp has also been organised by the Health Department for the health check-up of the people, through which, apart from health check-up of the people, various tests and free medicines are also being distributed as per requirement.
Apart from this, information is being given to farmers and gardeners through stalls by the Agriculture and Horticulture Department.
He said that the local Mahila Mandal and Self Help Groups are also selling their products and food items through stalls, which people are enjoying to the fullest.
On this occasion, convener of Yuvak Mandal Sipur Tapendra Verma, physical education teacher Nandlal Sharma, representatives of various departments who came to set up stalls, local artists and school children who came for sports competitions and cultural programs, besides youth and women Mandal members, a large number of fair lovers were present.
